According to the government, there is no medical support for these medicine and they may be 'dangerous' to the public. FDC medicine are those that contain a mixture of two or more active medicinal ingredients in a fixed ratio. The Union Health Ministry on Friday issued a notification banning these medicine containing 'Fixed Dose Combination' (FDC). This step has been taken following the recommendations of the expert committee.

The expert committee said that there is no medical support for this FDC (Fixed Dose Combination) and FDC poses a risk to humans. Therefore, in larger public interest, it is necessary to ban the manufacture, sale or distribution of this FDC under Section 26A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

8. Bromhexine + Dextromethorphan + Ammonium Chloride + Menthol
9. Chlorpheniramine + Codeine Phosphate + Menthol Syrup
10. Salbutamol + Hydroxyethyltheophylline (Etofylline) + Bromhexine
11. Dextromethorphan + Chlorpheniramine + Guaiphenesin + Ammonium Chloride
12. Ammonium Chloride + Sodium Citrate + Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Menthol
13. Paracetamol + Bromhexine+ Phenylephrine + Chlorpheniramine + Guaiphenesin
14. Chlorpheniramine maleate + Dextromethorphan + Guaiphenesin + Ammonium Chloride + Menthol
In the year 2016, the government announced a ban on the manufacture, sale and distribution of 344 drug combinations. The announcement came after an expert committee formed on the orders of the Supreme Court said that the relevant medicine were being sold to patients without scientific data. This order was challenged by the manufacturers in court.
