The cold Navratri of Sharad season, which comes in the month of Gujarati Aso, has a unique significance in our Hindu religion. Different forms of Mother Durga are worshipped for 9 days. As per popular legend according to our mythology, Durga Mata's Mahisasura is to be killed. On the day the nine days are completed, Havan is performed at Chachar Chowk and Dussehra is celebrated on the next day. In the nine days of Navaratri worship, forms like Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri, Siddhi Datri are worshipped.
Navratri or Navratra or Navratra is considered the biggest festival of Hindus, in which Shakti is worshiped and garba is performed. Navrat means Navratri in Sanskrit and Gujarati. Various nine forms of Maa Shakti Devi are worshiped during Navarat and ten days. During this Navratri Garba-Pooja, U5vas, prayers are performed. The festival starts from Aso Sud Ekam till Nom. On these days, Hindus observe Navadurga and invoke and worship the Goddess. The tradition of darshan of various nine forms of Maa Durga has been going on since time immemorial. During these days, the Sun has its influence with the beginning of two important conjunctions like spring and autumn. Navratri symbolizes the festival of Goddess Durga. Dussehra means ten days, that's why it is our tradition to eat sweets on the day Dussehra comes after Navratri.
According to our Puranic Shastras Navratri occurs four times in a year which are Vasant, Sharad, Pushya and Ashadha Navratri in which Sharad Navratri of eighty months has special significance. Vasant Navratri also has special significance in the spring period. The worship of the goddess is based on the tradition of the region. Durga who is inaccessible are goddesses like Bhadrakali, Annapurna, Sarva Mangala, Bhairavi, Chandrika or Chandi, Lalita, Bhavani and Mokambika. Various forms of Durga are depicted on Navratri days in Tamil Nadu. The best Navratri celebrations in the entire country are held in Gujarat and among them Navratri, Garba, Dandiya Raas of Saurashtra's Kathiawar are famous all over the world.

In the villages, when the grains are ripe and the days of joy come, the villagers used to gather and express their gratitude by praising the deities. Garba was performed in different ways in different regions and had different rhythms and steps. There are two garba, one ancient and the other today's archaic. Garbi was made by Bhandasji in 1721 and Garbi was made by Vallabh Mewada in 1780 AD. Garbo is also called to the divas by placing a flame inside a rimmed pot and songs sung in praise of Mataji in Navratri are also called garbo.
