Cyclone LOPAR: A low pressure cyclone in the Bay of Bengal has now become a storm. The Meteorological Department has said in the latest bulletin that the low pressure area formed over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal turned into a depression area in the area of ​​​​south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday. The bulletin said that at present this pressure is centered about 130 km east of Gopalpur and it is forecast to move northwest and cross the Odisha coast near Puri on Saturday afternoon. This storm has been named LOPAR.

The bulletin said that the system will continue to move in a northwesterly direction, causing heavy to very heavy rains in coastal, northern and western parts of the state from Friday night.

The IMD has said that this spell of torrential rains may continue till Saturday evening. The latest bulletin said that due to the storm, heavy rains are expected in western Odisha till Tuesday. The CEC bulletin further said that moderate to heavy rains are expected again from Tuesday in northern and western Odisha, including the catchment areas of major rivers like Upper Mahanadi, Baitarani, Brahmani, Budhabalanga and Subarnarekha and Jharkhand due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over northern Odisha, which will continue till next Friday.



Meteorological department sources said that winds ranging from 45-55 kmph to 65 kmph are expected over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and northern Andhra Pradesh, Odisha coasts on July 19 and 20 and will gradually decrease thereafter. Meteorologists said that the sea condition is expected to remain rough over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and Odisha coasts during the night of 19 and 20 July. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go into the sea.

The Meteorological Department has said that very heavy rain may occur in Southern and Northern Odisha on 20th July. Apart from this, heavy rain may also occur in Gangetic areas of West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Vidarbha areas.
