The 147th annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath will be taken out from Ahmedabad, Gujarat on July 7. Lakhs of devotees will participate in the Rath Yatra. 18 thousand security personnel will be deployed to protect the religious program. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with the police department and reviewed the preparations for the yatra. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi and Director General of Police Vikas Sahay were also present in the review meeting.
During the meeting, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik gave detailed information about the various security aspects of the Rath Yatra. GS Malik told CM Bhupendra Patel that 18,784 security personnel, including Inspector General of Police (IG) rank officers, would be deployed to protect the Rath Yatra. They will be deployed on the 16 km route in Ahmedabad for the 147th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
The procession usually consists of 18 decorated elephants, 100 trucks and 30 akhadas (local arenas). The chariots of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra will be pulled by members of the Khalashi community as per age-old tradition. On both sides of the road, lakhs of people throng to see the gods and goddesses.
