The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a low pressure area
has formed over the east central Bay of Bengal and its adjoining North Andaman
Sea. It is moving west-northwestward and is likely to develop into a
depression over the area on 22 October and into a cyclonic storm over the Bay
of Bengal on 23 October. Odisha and West Bengal will be most affected by this
cyclonic storm, where heavy rainfall is likely on October 24-25. This cyclone
has been named 'Dana'.

There is also a low pressure area over the East Central Bay of
Bengal and the adjoining North Andaman Sea. After intensifying into a cyclonic
storm on October 23, it will hit the Odisha and West Bengal coasts on October
24, packing winds of 100 to 120 kmph over the sea. The IMD has advised
fishermen to stay away from beaches from October 22-25.

The cyclonic storm is likely to produce wind gusts of 35-45 to 65 kmph over east-central Bay of Bengal on October 21, 55-65 to 75 kmph till the evening of October 22, and 70-90 kmph from the evening of October 23 to the morning of October 24. Winds of 45-55 to 65 kmph will prevail over West Central Bay of Bengal on October 23-24. Wind speed is likely to increase to 100-110 to 120 kmph in North Bay of Bengal. The wind speed will reach 120 km per hour from the night of October 24 to the morning of October 25.
Rain alert in these states
According to IMD, Odisha and West Bengal are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rains during October 22 to 26. Jharkhand is also likely to receive rain on October 24. Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka will also be affected by the cyclonic storm. Northeast, Central and North-West India are unlikely to receive rain in the next one week.
